Treatments
Most citrine on the market is heat treated amethyst. When citrine gem stone is heat treated it gets a reddish tint.
Treated citrine is often dark orange brown to reddish brown. Untreated gems do not have the distinctive red tint, though the heat of the earth has changed some amethyst crystals to brown citrine.
